Take a comfortable position, sit quietly and contemplate the colours, lights and shapes of the illustrations as you breathe easy. Close your eyes visualising the image in your minds eye. If you wish to do so you can open your eyes to look at the illustration at any time during meditation.

Red

The red colour is by many traditions a symbol of the life force that runs within our bodies, the colour of the live giving blood. It is the colour of warmth, passion and the intense fire energy of the planet Mars. The intensity of the colour red can be seen as a giver of new life and rebirth. The yogic traditions connects the colour red to knowledge as a foundation of realisation and cherishes the energising qualities of the colour. The long wavelengths of the colour red gives rise to the metabolic rate of the body accompanied by a rise of energy.

In meditation the colour red evokes vitality.

 
 
 
 

Orange

Orange is the colour of the rising and setting sun. As the sunlight is refracted by the atmosphere of the earth. It is a mixture of red and yellow - bringing forth warmth and friendliness. It is said to balance the creative expression and infusing qualities of the divine feminine. It is the colour of saffron and in yogic tradition it is the colour of purity - as the fire that burns away impurities.

In meditation the colour orange evokes vibrancy.

 
 
 
 

Yellow

Yellow is the colour of brilliant sunlight - the midday sun. A combination of bright light and radiant heat. It is the complimentary to the colour blue - as the sun in the blue sky. Along with orange and red, it is an energising colour. The lightness of yellow brings in positivity and joyfulness. Yellow speakes the language of many traditions - from the colour of fertility in ancient china to the stage citrinitas in the proces of making gold in medieval alchemy.

In the alchemy of meditation it evokes happiness.

 
 
 
 

Green

Green is the colour of nature - the natural unfolding of infusing a seed with sunlight, earth and water in the creation of a new green plant. As the chlorophyll in the green plant connotes freshness and natural balance, the colour green creates sense of space and it is said to evoke the wisdom of the heart. It has the qualities of happiness, peace, and harmony. The short wavelength of the colour green has a soothing effect, by lowering the capillaries, giving a restfull effect against insomnia, fatigue and the stress of the modern world.

Blue

Yogic traditions tells us that blue is the colour of consciousness. In the pantheon of Indian Gods Lord Krishna is depicted with coloured blue skin and henna coloured hands. In western society we apply the colour blue to hope, honesty and the blue sky as well as the oceans. The short wavelengths gives a state of restfullness to the body. It is calming and gives focus to the state of meditation. It is often the choice of colour if you wish to communicate honesty and reliability.

In meditation blue evokes a state of calmness.

 
 
 
 

Purple

Purple is said to be a mystical colour, the colour of magic and intuition. The purple colour induces wholeness off being as it stimulates balance - mind, body and spirit. The colour of royalty in many traditions, the highest most sacred values. It is the combination of red and blue, earth and heaven - energising spiritual awakening.

White

The white colour consist of all colours. It is pure white light. We see the colour white when an object reflects all light and colour wavelengths. It is the colour of pristine snow, as the reflection of sunlight and the full moon illuminating the night sky. The colour white symbolises innocence, purity and virtue. As the white dress of a bride, the white dove of peace, the colour of sanctity. In yogic traditions the white light it is connected to purity, cleanliness and new beginnings. It holds the qualities of infinity and the bliss of Oneness.

In meditation the colour white evokes transcendence.
